[Event Review] : Annual Darling High Tea

We received an invite to the Annual exclusive Darling High Tea which was held last friday.

Upon arrival at Monte Casino we were greeted by the friendly Mangwanani River Valley Spa staff whom offered us something to drink.

We got on the bus and we traveled for an hour by the time we arrived at the spa it was hot, I was exhausted and hungry. I expected to find a lot of people but instead it was an intimate event.

We had breakfast then each had to stand up and introduce ourselves. Thuli Thabethe was the host, she shared with us her personal experience on hair and we had a debate, the “comrades” had a lot to say about maintaining healthy hair, I learned so many things about hair that I didn’t know.

I was so shocked to find out that some salons use sunlight dish washing soap instead of shampoo and we’ll never know because we never check what they use.

Nthato Mashihi – Make-up artist and stylist was the next speaker he was telling us about the do’s and don’t’s of trends. Then it was time to be pampered, started off with a foot massage then a lovely hot stone massage.

I was able to speak to Darling’s Marketing Manager Debbie Allorto, I was incredibly impressed with the down to earth persona she shared with everyone that morning. She welcomed all the guests with open arms! She made time to meet and greet everyone with an incredible sincerity that really showed the ingénue person she is!

Following the success of last year’s supporting bill competition and to continue their support of South African musicians and the local music industry, Canoc Productions founder and Managing Director, Phala Letsoalo announced the Chris Brown Carpe Diem SA Tour supporting act competition.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for local musicians and bands to perform at one of the forthcoming Chris Brown concerts presented by Canoc Productions in association with Channel O, GagasiFM, YFM, GoodHope FM and Independent Newspapers. “We encourage musicians to enter this unique competition which is also the perfect platform to showcase their talents.” says Letsoalo.

To stand a chance at being selected to perform at one of these concerts, artists need to create a profile via a Facebook based application then upload their content – video, songs and pictures and share it with their fans using social networks. Artists can only enter to perform at one venue. Fans would need to view artist profiles on the site and vote for the artist of their choice to perform at a particular concert. Each fan is entitled to one vote per artist, using their Facebook profile.  The more votes an artist accumulates the better a chance they stand to win to perform at their chosen concert venue. The winners are chosen relative to the number of votes they acquire. The artist with the most votes in each city wins the honour of performing on the supporting bill act of a Chris Brown concert. As part of the terms and conditions of the competition the winning musicians are still subject to artist management approval.

The competition goes live from today, 22 November 2012 and closes on 10 December 2012.

You could be performing on the very same stage where mega artist, Chris Brown played to thousands of South African fans.  Enter today HERE

Melinda Bam’s send-off to Miss Universe

Melinda Bam‘s send-off event to Miss Universe was hosted at The Venue Green Park on Monday evening, the venue itself lived up to its name by being one of the most magnificent venues in Joburg.

I was impressed when I found out that Melinda was the first Miss South Africa to meet the Sun International board to discuss her charity work and that she’s involved in a lot of charity projects. During her thank you speech she could barely keep in her tears. It was such an emotional moment.

In a fight to keep the Mohau Centre in Kalafong open, Melinda joined forces with the Business for Empowerment Trust (BET) to raise funds for the centre which were in dire need of financial assistance. Melinda, along with the BET raised R200 000 for the centre.

Melinda also announced that she will be starting a clothing line called BamShell, cannot wait to wear my first BamShell creation. I was hoping she was going to tell us that she’ll be releasing a exercise video, Did you see her abs in Cosmopolitan? 😀

I’ve had the opportunity to meet and speak to her a couple of times and I can say this “she is definitely greatness defined. ” Miss SA 2012 has big shoes to fill.

PORTRAIT OUTFIT love the back

The Heiresss Team would like to wish Melinda all the best on her Journey to Miss Universe. You can tweet her your messages using the hashtag #MissUniverseSouthAfrica

RECAP 3 – Road To Miss SA

Week 3 of Road To Miss SA, this week’s first task is talking the talk. The girls attend a workshop with various speakers including the reigning Miss South Africa Melinda Bam.

We learn that Miss SA is a walking CV and we also learned some tips about networking.

“Hi, what do u do??” Is the worst opening line you could ever us, rather say “Hi, How do you spend most of your time?”

Image, compassion and confidence makes a great Miss SA.

Then it was off to the cocktail party, the ladies needed confidence, charm and a great dress to make a great impression

Judging Criteria:
– Appropriate conversation
– How the girls interacted
– How the girls were dressed

Top 3 :
– Charlotte
– Sonia

Bottom 3:

That had a workout with Lisa Raleigh, that was so hectic – I could imagine myself passing out. After the workout they were off to Task 2 (The Press Conference) where they had to answer questions from the media while the judges were also in the same room.

This was really tough for the girls, after today’s tasks most girls watching realized how difficult this competition actually is.

Judging Criteria
– How you handled the media
– How you answered the question
– Appearance

Top 4:
– Michelle
– Natasha

Bottom 3:
– Melissa

Today’s episode was my favourite so far. It’s the end of the road for Angelyn, Kylie, Mellissa and Nicole and only 24 ladies remain on the Road To Miss SA.
