EVENT REVIEW : Loin Cloth & Ashes Store Launch

I recently got an invite to a designer Anisa Mpungwe’s clothing store launch. Loin Cloth and Ashes first burst on to the local fashion scene in 2008 when designer Anisa Mpungwe became the first black woman to win the Elle New Design Talent.

Loin Cloth and Ashes has appeared on the local and international catwalks. She has even showcased at the prestigious New York Fashion Week as part of the Arise Magazine African Collective in 2010.

I arrived there and didn’t know what to do or where to go, there weren’t any notices of where people should go, I couldn’t see the media entrance, general or VIP entrances, So I sat down on the pavement outside Sarai Interior Design & Decor. – The lovely guy who works there even charged my phone for me.

The setting was nice, there were chilled vibes, nice music, while waiting for the show to start I spotted. Dion Chang, Zizo Beda – in a gorgeous yellow and black dress, Anele Mdoda – She’s beautiful ay, Kabelo “KB” Ngakane – he came and sat next to us on the pavement, Psyfo and his beautiful date Hulisani Ravele, Shashi Naidoo – I almost fainted she’s a hottie, Weza Solange – I went up to her and introduced myself, she’s so sweet and beautiful , David Tlale, Bridget Masinga – She has nice, skinny legs.

After 2 hours of sitting on the pavement and being braai’d by the sun the show finally started with a performance by Vintage Crew- honestly I didn’t know who they were, was just shocked to see guys and girls dancing in leggings and lace outfits. Anele Mdoda was the MC and she’s also the ambassador and Face of Loin Cloth & Ashes.

The show started and they showcased 11 outfits, I loved all of them, It was the first time I see Anisa’s work . I was enthralled with the show. The collection was wonderfully designed, each with something unique to offer, all showcasing pieces that you could easily take home and wear with pride.

The whole set up of the show itself was incredibly well managed and contributed to creating a truly remarkable event. It was more than a parading of clothes; it was a showcase of talent and passion.

I didn’t get an opportunity to go into the shop, it was really packed.

I rate this event a 4.1 out of 5. You can visit their shop , address : 20 Kruger Street, Maboneng Precinct, City and Suburban 2001, Joburg. (Same area as Arts on Main and Main Street Life) or you can visit their site http://www.loinclothandashes.com

Thanks to Anisa Mpungwe and On Point PR for the invite.
